The number of treatments required varies according to the individual. I advise having at least three weekly sessions before deciding if the treatments are having the desired effect.
Reflexology is suitable for all ages – including babies and toddlers – and may also bring relief from a wide range of chronic and acute conditions. Many people continue to have regular sessions to maintain health and wellbeing after completing a course of treatments. I believe that reflexology helps us to cope with day to day life on a physical, mental and emotional level as well as encouraging us to heal and maintain health in all areas of our lives.
Each person responds differently to reflexology and my treatments are tailored to the individual. Common responses can include: a deep feeling of relaxation, sleepiness, coldness or warmth, increased energy, tingling sensations in the body, tearfulness or headaches. All these responses are temporary and are part of the natural healing process. Each response is positive as it shows the body is responding to reflexology. It is important you relay this information back to me after your treatment as it shows how you are responding. It can also help me tailor your treatment plan to suit your specific needs.
Reflexology is very relaxing and provides an excellent way of releasing stress and tension. It may be used to help restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium. Reflexology works to encourage the body to restore itself. There is a view that its gentle nature makes it particularly valuable in aiding recovery after illness, operations or prolonged periods of stress, as well as helping those experiencing fertility issues.
At the initial consultation, I take a full medical history, including lifestyle factors, so I can provide a treatment plan that is most suited to you. During the treatment you will be semi-reclined on a professional chair or treatment couch so you can lie back, relax and enjoy the benefits of the reflexology session. Before each treatment commences, I discuss the reflex points that we will be focusing on and why. I conclude my sessions with a summary of the findings and lifestyle recommendations. I even suggest simple activities that you can do at home between each treatment, such as stimulating your own hand reflexes.
I always suggest allowing three months, as this is how long it takes for an egg to mature (roughly 72 days for sperm), and for any changes to take effect.
Whenever I start seeing someone, I advise weekly sessions for five weeks. The first session is a consultation that involves going through a detailed history and a reproductive assessment on the reflexes of your feet. The following four sessions take you through a full menstrual cycle so I can see what is happening hormonally. I then work to bring your cycle to where it should be at either the follicular or luteal phases. If you have irregular periods, I would ask to see you weekly until you have a period. Following the first cycle and depending on what we find, treatments will then usually reduce to two per menstrual cycle. Obviously, for men the approach is slightly different. I ask to see partners for 12 consecutive weeks (as it takes roughly 72 days for sperm to mature), and then this reduces to every other week.
At the first appointment I take a full consultation. Together, we then go through the answers you have provided me in advance on a consultation form , including relevant medical history and lifestyle habits. This takes some time so there is not time for a full treatment as well. Instead, I take an assessment of your reproductive reflexes at the end of the session. With all of this information, I can then send you personalised recommendations and plan the best treatment plan for you.
